I am here!. Thank you for your postings. Following your writing journey is a treat. But don't feel you have to give more; whatever you give is exactly right.

Thank you, Nicci. I appreciate everyone who is hanging around.

Something about the language of Substack (subscribers, growth charts) makes me feel very unproductive. hehe

I am writing three papers and a conference abstract simultaneously. I repeatedly write into Substack without publishing it because I am nervous about having an audience for what I am now writing about. Education for Sustainability is invariably political. There are deep problems in how we talk and teach about sustainability, particularly in higher education. But, part of what I write about is dismantling structures and systems I am currently part of, like the PhD process itself. It's strange to know that the system I am in, and the games we play (publish or perish, let's all fly to conferences) are crumbling.

I was in a conversation last week when we realised that we could be some of the final cohorts of PhD students, where writing a thesis will be the main process. Some students who can afford to license multiple AI tools already use them. They become highly productive quickly, while others still take the long journey. It's not a choice if you can't afford to buy the same tools. Maybe it is ok to have both? The fast track for students who seek employment outcomes -- write your thesis in 30 days! The slow track for those who seek inner growth and development. Maybe they can co-exist, too, and intertwine. The truly personalised PhD will finally arrive?
